Can I Use VA Assistance for Memory Care at Agua Fria?

We understand that the cost of assisted living can be a challenge for many.

We understand that the cost of assisted living can be a challenge for many. But when it comes to memory care, it’s even more important to be in a place that’s safe, secure, and putting your health first. Choosing a community that has quality care and a price that won’t break the bank can be easier said than done for many places. Here at the Mission at Agua Fria, we offer a few different options as to how to manage the cost of assisted living. One of these ways is through benefits specifically for veterans. We honor and commend the brave service of our veterans here at the Mission at Agua Fria and want to help give back to them, and through accepting the veteran’s benefits, we can.

What is The Veteran’s Benefit?

Veterans who need assisted living, including memory care, but do not have the financial means to pay for it on their own can apply for veteran’s benefits. This also applies to the surviving spouse of a veteran if they are the one in need. Through the Aid and Attendance Pension benefit, veterans and/or their surviving spouses receive financial help, and the amount of money depends on that. For a veteran and a spouse, you’ll receive $2,230 monthly, or $26,766 annually. For just a single veteran, you’ll receive $1,881 monthly, or $22,577 annually. For a qualifying surviving spouse, you’ll receive $1,209 monthly, or $14,507 annually. All these amounts are tax-free and are paid each month to those who qualify.

How Should I Go About Receiving This Benefit?

The first thing you should do is connect with the US Department of Veteran Affairs. They can provide you with detailed information on the Aid and Attendance Pension benefit, any additional programs available, what the specific qualifications there are to the benefit, and how to complete your application. If you prefer to contact the Pension Management Center that serves your state or your local regional benefit office, they should also be able to help you with any questions and to file your request.

The application can seem daunting, but there are many Veterans Services Organizations and VA-accredited representatives, agents, and attorneys who will be able to help you file the pension claim. Plus, they should do it free of charge—if they try to charge you, it’s worth double-checking to make sure they are not a scam. A good place to find an accredited and trustworthy representative is by checking on the VA Office of General Counsel website.

In short, yes, you can use VA assistance for memory care at Agua Fria. If you’re a veteran or a surviving spouse of a veteran, we encourage you to look into the application, determine if you qualify, and apply. Take advantage of this benefit to help ease the cost of memory care. Helping your loved one move into memory care is already a difficult time, so make it a bit less stressful by receiving the financial help deserved.
