What Is the Admission Process for Assisted Living on Medicaid?

If you are looking to move into an assisted living community and are worried about the cost, we have good news for you! At BridgeWater Assisted Living, we have many different financial solutions available to our residents to help make senior living affordable, and one of those options is Medicaid. If you are looking for assisted living on Medicaid, you do not need to fret as there are options. We are one of many assisted living communities that are Medicaid certified.

It makes sense to utilize these benefits to be able to afford assisted living on Medicaid. So, how can you do this? Here is the admission process for assisted living on Medicaid:

Make Sure the Assisted Living Takes Medicaid

It’s not a given that every assisted living community is Medicaid certified. Because of this, it’s important to do your research and make sure that the assisted living community you are interested in is Medicaid certified and accepts it. If you are in Arizona, you will need to qualify for Medicaid through the Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS), so if you see ALTCS but not Medicaid on an assisted living’s information pages, it’s worth asking just to make sure.

ALTCS was created to help Arizona seniors who have a disability or medical need to find high-quality care that they can afford. It’s meant to give these seniors financial assistance, allowing them to be able to pay for the long-term care they need, such as assisted living.

Make Sure You’re Approved for ALTCS

In order to be eligible for assisted living on Medicaid, you will need to make sure that you’re approved for ALTCS. You will either need to already be receiving ALTCS benefits or live in the community and are currently spending down your savings to soon qualify for ALTCS.

At BridgeWater, we set aside a number of apartments specifically for residents who are using Medicaid. Please keep in mind that if you are not already approved for ALTCS benefits, the standard application process can take anywhere from 45 to 60 days.

Lean On Expert Support

The admission process can seem confusing for assisted living on Medicaid, especially if you are not already approved for ALTCS. To make things easier, we have Community Benefits Advocates as part of our staff that are available to help you with the process or answer any additional questions you may have about the process. You can reach them by calling 602-603-7482. They can also help you get your application started, too. Our Community Benefits Advocates have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the admission process for assisted living on Medicaid, so we highly recommend that residents or future residents who are looking to maximize their Medicaid benefits give them a call.
